Another winner from Charlie Russel,
Charlie Russel and Sharon Crawford have been putting out the gold standard in Small Business Server books since the first version of SBS shipped in the late 1990′s. This latest effort is as comprehensive and accurate as their previous SBS titles, including not only direct information about installing and operating SBS, but also topics such as planning, security, migration, Hyper-V, data protection, and many others.
This book will save many SBS users from having to buy other books for related functions. For example, there are chapters on subjects like Group Policy, customizing SharePoint, and adding a Terminal Server. The authors’ real world, hands-on experience in planning, implementing, and managing Small Business Server networks is clear in every chapter. Not limited to just the Small Business Server itself, this book gives the knowledge needed to manage every part of the small business’s back office infrastructure.
This book is a valuable reference for anyone deploying Small Business Server Standard 2011, with or without the Premium Add-On, which is also covered in depth. I wouldn’t be without it.

|Not for me,
With how fast OS’s change this book already didn’t match my SBS 2011 that was loaded on my server. It was trial and error when you’re following a book on server setup and things don’t match. Your’s may, if it does than this should work for you.

|Average at best.,
The book itself is average at best. As with most Microsoft books, it assumes that everything installed correctly and no troubleshooting will ever have to be done at all, now or in the future. Something everyone should be used to dealing with Microsoft and twice as much with Apple. We’ve learned to live with half assed documentation.
The real downside to this book is acquiring the digital copy. For some strange reason rather than including it on simple media such as a 2 cent CD or making it available online for your convenience, you HAVE to create an account with O’Reilly – Safari Books online (not associated with Microsoft or Microsoft Press). It appears the one and only goal at O’Reilly is to charge you to access a book you’ve already purchased and a double dip to hock their “service”. If you have need of a digital copy of this book, I highly recommend another source, even if it means buying the book, cutting off the binding and scanning it yourself.
